6 minute sketch Kowloon Cafe: 6分鐘畫畫：九龍冰室
Located less than 5 minutes walk from our apartment in Taipei, this is the restaurant that we probably visit on average once a week for lunch. Every time I sit down and have lunch it feels as if I’m on holiday, and I remind myself how lucky I am to live in this city in our neighbourhood. I often get the 菠蘿包加豬排 (pineapple bun with pork and egg sandwich), and my wife will get 蝦仁餛飩湯 (shrimp wonton soup). There are so many things I like about this restaurant: it’s convenient, it has a quiet neighbourhood feel, you can look out the windows at the community parks next door, and the food has never let me down. They have quite a lot of selection of noodles, as well as some dim sum dishes, but due to the fact that they have a bottle of heinz mustard available (which no one else uses except for myself, I’m pretty sure), I go for my usual pineapple pork bun meal seven times out of ten. The owner is very friendly, and he keeps a collection of anime figures that have been accumulated by him and his son behind the counter, giving it a family atmosphere as well. Before eating here one day, my wife and I decided to take six minutes and alternately sketch the front of the cafe in order to tame our appetites to learn a bit of patience. A great place for lunch, and if you are in the area and feel like a vacation while you daydream and gaze out of their soothing windows, you can head here to get your fill.
