The Goddamn Mosquito
Swollen hand of baby,
Needle full of blood,
Pierce the flesh, make it raw, pull the scab and watch it flow,
Do not, oh pray DO NOT touch the bump that springs forth from your mark!
’Tis the goddamn mosquito that vexes me so.
You siphon my essential fuel,
You “wheeeeeee” hither and “skreeeeeee” thither,
On the wall, on the screen, on the window,
On my skin, in my hair, in the deepest parts of my soul,
In my life, in my dreams, in the aftermath of armageddon,
You come for one, you come for all, you are indestructible,
You are the one who outlasts the last of us,
You are the lone flag fluttering on the battlefield of death,
You are the one who laughs in our faces as we spit blood,
You are the one who taunts us, driving our sanity through our very pores,
You, the goddamn mosquito, defeat us all.
All throughout history, you are with us,
Felling empires with your sting.
And so I give myself to you, and let you have your fill,
Yes, I open my palm and give myself to you,
You may rest, and so must I,
The night is just beginning, your time has just begun,
The lights are off, we search the room,
A mystery — your leisure life that no one knows.
We grab the racket, the spotlight is on.
Catch this goddamn mosquito whose journey is sure to end.
You wear your hubris like a top hat, you hold a sparkling glass.
Each and every corner, we listen for your sound.
The doors open, your coattails trail from behind.
The hunt is on, we will not rest.
The ladies welcome you, they dance the can-can.
Not here, not there, where dost thou hide?
6 dames for you, the blood goes to your head.
The torches burn, the pitchforks raise,
A night of passion, hushed-toned secrets exchanged in the dark,
We close in on thee, there is no escape,
A lover’s gasp, the deed is done, the ladies flee,
The fates descend, the weapon lowers, the end finds its mark,
The goddamn mosquito is no more.
But there are always more, somewhere in the dark.
Wheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!
